If you do you are not alone, research suggests that more than 90 million women worldwide suffer from hormone imbalances that cause painful heavy irregular periods. Month after month they suffer through the debilitating symptoms of Endometriosis, Fibroids or PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) *or heavy bleeding. Month after month they experience weight gain and find weight loss almost impossible and it's all because of hormones.
Naturopathic treatment of weight gain caused by hormonal imbalance is successful and has helped many women heal their symptoms and achieve weight loss naturally. The best part is, it’s available online! Read Michelle's story here
*According to the U.S. National Institute of Health
- More than 90 million women globally suffer from Endometriosis causing painful periods and weight gain around the middle for no reason.
- As many as 77 % of women may actually have fibroids, but may be unaware of it causing heavy periods and period pain.
- Up to 30% of women may have PCOS causing rapid weight gain and painful periods
- 1 in 3 Women have a undiagnosed thyroid imbalance contributing to heavy periods, a slow metabolism and weight gain.
These women all experience hormonal symptoms such as lengthy, heavy, painful periods.
Hormonal imbalances such as Fibroids, Endometriosis and PCOS can lead to problems such as insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome, weight gain and to difficulties getting pregnant. They can also lead to feelings of isolation and distress that comes from dealing with long term regular pain and weight loss attempts fail time and time again.
Salivary Hormone Testing for Period Problems
By completing my full online naturopathic health and hormone test, I will invest no less than 45 minutes piecing together your symptoms and really pinpoint what hormones are causing your weight gain and other health complaints. If I feel that further salivary or blood testing via you GP is required, I will make those recommendations.
For example, as part of the process of compiling a natural weight loss program for you, I may suggest measuring hormone levels by using salivary hormone test kits, available from my clinic. Salivary hormone test kits can assist in the proper diagnoses of hormonal imbalances contributing to weight gain and conditions such as Fatigue, PCOS, Fibroids, Endometriosis, Cyst, Menopause and Thyroid imbalance. Not sure if hormones are causing period problems and causing weight gain?
So what are Fibroids?
Fibroids are solid masses of muscle tissue, collagen, elastin or other proteins. They are abnormal growths that don't belong in the uterus.
According to research, hormones such as oestrogen, progesterone, genetics, diet and lifestyle, all interact to cause the formation of Fibroids.
Fibroids cause symptoms such as:

So what are Endometriosis?
Endometriosis occurs when the endometrium (inner lining of your uterus) is found outside the uterus - usually in the abdomen, on the ovaries and fallopian tubes.
This misplaced tissue develops into growths or lesions resulting in internal bleeding, breakdown of tissue from the lesions and inflammation. This causes pain, heavy periods or abnormal bleeding patterns.
Symptoms of Endometriosis include:
Pain may occur in any of the following forms:
- Period pain - immediately before and during the period
- Pain during or after sex
- Abdominal, back and/or pelvic pain
- Pain with opening bowels, passing wind, urinating or frequency
- Ovulation pain, including thigh or leg pain
Bleeding irregularities

Digestive problems:
- Bowel or bladder symptoms, including bleeding from bladder or bowel
- Irregular bowel habits e.g. constipation, diarrhoea
- Bloating
Mood Changes
- Premenstrual symptoms
- Tiredness
So what is PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome)?
PCOS can contribute to irregular or absent periods, depression, excessive weight gain, acne, and excess facial hair. It is also the most common cause of infertility among women in Australia.
Understanding PCOS is tricky, but basically your body does not release an egg during ovulation. This causes levels of oestrogen and androgens (testosterone and DHEA) to remain high, causing unpleasant signs & symptoms and rapid weight gain.
PCOS is usually connected with insulin resistance which is a condition that leads to sustained high levels of insulin in the bloodstream. It is possible that this extra insulin binds onto the receptors lining the ovary causing hormonal imbalances and consequently PCOS. Insulin resistance causes weight gain and makes weight loss difficult.
In fact, if you're headed down the path to PCOS, you're heading towards metabolic syndrome - a leading contributor to heart disease and ill health.
If you have or think you may have PCOS, take heart in the realisation that there are many things you can do naturally, without drugs. Like any condition related to hormone imbalance, improving your lifestyle and the right dietary changes; you can restore your health.
