Are you fatigued?

Nutritional Deficiencies Could Be The Cause

Do you jump out of bed every morning with a spring in your step? Or do you drag your body out of bed and struggle through your day? As a Natural Healthcare Practitioner, one of the most common symptoms I see, especially among my patients undertaking my natural weightloss or fertility programs, is fatigue. Some people are calling fatigue a symptom of living in the 21st Century. One thing is for sure, with our stressful, busy lives, people are becoming more and more tired and, for an increasing number of people, persistent unremitting fatigue is a major problem. If you have to drag yourself out of bed and struggle through your day, then you may benefit from some natural supplements to help give you an energy boost.

Fatigue can interfere with your ability to perform at work, with personal relationships and can reduce enjoyment of life in general. Fatigue can be a sign of more serious problems and the underlying cause needs to be identified and resolved. Left untreated, fatigue creates a selfperpetuating downward spiral which can be very difficult to break.

What causes fatigue?

Things that may lead to fatigue include

Are you fatigued, sick and tired?

As you can see, there are multiple reasons why you may feel fatigued. A common reason people get fatigued is poor energy production. To keep your energy levels up, you need to ensure that all your body systems are in balance and working effectively. You also need to make sure that the energy centres of every cell in your body, the mitochondria, are working effectively.

The energy "powerhouses" - the mitochondria

Every cell in your body contains energy centres known as the mitochondria, which require certain nutrients to work efficiently. No matter what else is going on in your body, if mitochondrial function is impaired, you will have reduced energy production. Support of healthy mitochondrial function is essential for optimising your energy levels. If you experience fatigue, improving mitochondrial function is an important first step toward improving your energy levels.

Energy to burn!

Our body naturally produces a substance called Coenzyme Q10, referred to generally as CoQ10. CoQ10 is vital for healthy energy production by our cells. CoQ10 protects our energy producing factories from day to day damage and acts sort of like insulation around an electrical wire. Without this insulation, energy does not reach its correct destination, and we would have no electricity to run our lights, fridges or computers! The same is true with CoQ10, if we do not have enough to insulate our wires we dont have enough energy to function properly, and we feel tired.

In our youth we usually make adequate amounts of CoQ10, but our production of CoQ10 begins to decrease from the age of 30 years. Our levels of CoQ10 can also be reduced in certain illnesses and when taking particular medications. CoQ10 is a very well researched nutrient and many studies show that supplementing with CoQ10 improves energy.

The key to unlocking the energy centres in your body

Nutrients are the key to increasing energy in your body, as they are used to support the mitochondria. Important nutrients required include

Coenzyme Q10

Coenzyme Q10 may be helpful in the management of fatigue as it enhances cellular energy production and is also a powerful antioxidant.

CoQ10 needs to be naturally derived for the best activity, and needs to be in an appropriate oil base for optimal absorption. After all, theres no point spending your money on a supplement that your body cant use. CoQ10 delivered in the patented EnsorbTM base has 900% better absorption than powdered CoQ10 supplements, meaning that your body is better able to use this type of supplement and you will experience stronger and faster results.

N-Acetyl Carnitine

Carnitine plays an important role in fat metabolism and energy production. It acts by transporting dietary fats directly into the mitochondria to be broken down and burnt as fuel for energy production. It is also able to cross the blood brain barrier and assist with mental fatigue.

Lipoic Acid

Lipoic acid is important for the correct transport and conversion of carbohydrates into energy whilst protecting the mitochondria from damage (as it is a potent antioxidant).

Magnesium

Magnesium is an essential cofactor required for energy production in all cells; and without adequate levels of magnesium inside your cells, fatigue is inevitable. Magnesium is needed everywhere in the body; in fact, over 300 processes in the body depend on magnesium. With regards to energy production, it is important for the conversion of sugars, fats and proteins to energy.

Foods rich in magnesium include nuts (almond, brazil, cashew, pine), seeds (sesame, sunflower), bananas, raspberries, chilli powder, spinach, parsley, red meat, pork and chicken

Omega-3 Essential Fatty Acids

Essential fatty acids are vital for the integrity and stability of every mitochondrial membrane in the body. Omega-3 oils stimulate the growth and size of the mitochondria, along with helping to lower stress levels, which overall can contribute to higher energy levels.

Foods rich in Omega-3 EFAs include fish, oils (fish, flaxseed, walnut, canola), walnuts and soybeans

Based on your health review questionnaire, we can help you improve your energy levels by choosing the supplement(s) best suited to your needs.
