What makes Your Body Store Fat?

Weight loss for some women is a constant battle. Let's face it, there aren't many of us who carry so much muscle around that it weighs us down and hampers our sports performance.

Our overall weight effectively consists of :- i) lean tissue (muscles, bones, internal organs, bodily fluids, etc.) ii) fat, where we can see it (around our waists, butts, legs, etc.) and where we can't (it's even hidden inside us as well).

So if we lose a little fat and gain a little muscle at the same time, our overall weight loss may not change at all. We really need to see how much of a love-handle we can grab to get an idea of how fat we really are (this is what our skin-fold calipers tell us).

But what makes weight loss so hard for some women? The answer is not a simple one. There are many things that influence your metabolic rate, or your bodies ability to burn fat. To break it down, the top four influences are hormones, toxins, inflammation and genetics.

Hormones: Are Your Hormones Making You Fat?

If you have dieted and exercised in the past only to be disappointed with your weight loss, then don't dismay or give up just yet....

Diets and exercise are just two pieces of a complex puzzle of weight loss. Hormones are the key to unlocking your weight loss success! It is not common practice to get our hormones checked, but even the slightest imbalances can tip the scales and just make weight loss a futile exercise.

Hormones are often not integrated into diet programs because frankly they are very complex. There are numerous different hormones in the body and these present in over a thousand possible combinations that can affect your health and weight.

Hormones and Your Metabolism

Fat storage or fat burning in the body is dictated by hormones, specifically the hormone Insulin. There are also other hormones that effect and influence your metabolism. It is like a big interrelated web where a subtle increase in one hormone may lead to responses from other endocrine glands that produce other hormones causing symptoms such as fatigue, mood changes, low libido and weight gain to name a few.

Major Triggers of Hormonal Imbalance and Weight Gain

There are many things that can trigger hormone imbalances. You may recognise a certain time in your life when things just changed and you started to gain weight. So many women have this story; it can honestly happen to anyone and it can lead to some further health conditions that compound the problem.

Toxins cause weight gain

Toxicity is rampant. As our environment becomes more toxic, our bodies absorb more toxins through our skin, the food we eat and the air we breathe. Studies have shown that even babies have high levels of toxins in their bodies, having been transferred through the placenta. Our bodies work hard to eliminate toxins through the skin, kidneys, liver and exhaled air.

Toxicity can be a major cause of hormonal imbalances, inflammation, cancer, thyroid problems, neurological disturbances, learning problems, depression, skin disorders and allergies, fat cell sickness, and weight gain.

Inflammation causes weight gain

Inflammation causes fat cell sickness and weight gain. Inflammation is when things get swollen, red and painful. Inflammation is your body's response to anything that irritates it. Essentially inflammation is like a small biological fire designed to "burn away" the irritation. We often think of inflammation as a result of injury due to sprains, strains, cuts and grazes, insect bites and stings, which produce the localised pain, swelling, redness and heat. Although this is true, inflammation can also be a result of poor diet, lifestyle, and stress.
